My Experience with Scór
BY nIAMH
Our first competition was on the 26th of February. We were practicing a few weeks before the competition. We were going to perform the six hand (Fairy Reel) Rince Foirne .
The people on the team were Alannah, Méabh H, Méabh M, Soleil, Jessie, Niamh (me) and the sub is Abigail O’F.
Michael Cahill our Irish dancing teacher came to the school every Tuesday to help us get ready for the different competitions.
We spent all our lunch breaks practicing for the competitions.
The first competition was on in Lisgoold. It was the East Cork semi-final and we scored 78%.
The second competition, the East Cork Final was on in Watergrass hill. We scored 91% and we got trophies to keep for are self and we won a cup for our school that we must give back in a year.
We got invited to the scór Na nÓg for the secondary schools. It was on in Lisgoold we scored a 90%. We were the youngest group there.
The fourth dance was the County semi-final in Ovens, and we scored 89%. The fifth dance was the county finals of Scór Na nÓg at Ovens and we got an 87%. We didn’t get through to the next round, but we still have the Scór Na bPáistí on the first of April so hopefully we will win.

So first the people on the scór team are Méabh, Soleil, Jessica, Niamh, Alannah and our sub Abbie. Our dance name was the fairy real
Our first competition I was pretty nervous but when the music started and when we were on stage it was not so bad it was fun to just go up and dance on stage and that was in Lisgoold and we got a scór of 78% and we got through to the next competition.
We came back to school and kept on dancing. it can to the next competition. When it came to our turn to dance we were lining up ready do dance but this time I was not as nervous to dance as last time.
We started to dance we did pretty good and this place we went to was called Watergrasshill. And a scór of 91%. We jumped a lot we got 78% in our first on and this time we got 91%. We got through to the next final in the competition.
We kept on trying at school so we can keep on getting good scores so we kept on pushing ourselves in school the week went by and came to the next competition.
Our 3rd competition was in ovens we won trophies and a cup for our school because we tried so hard and we won. We all were so happy even though myself and Méabh Hawkins went early so we were not there when they announced that we won. We figured out because Niamh’s mom rang my mom to say that we won. We were so happy to hear the good news
Out of nowhere we got asked to dance in older division.
Our 4th competition was in Lisgoold was really good we won trophies because we finished in first place. We were really happy and we got our picture taken and it was really good. I was so happy because now I have two trophies in my room and our Scór was 90%.
Our 5th competition was in ovens we danced so goo and we got a Scór of 87% we did not get through but if we did we would have gotten into the Munster’s but that was ok because they were way older than us.
Our last competition will be this Saturday 1st of April in Ovens for Scór na Páistí.

When I first got told if any of our class would like to attend scór na páistí, at first I was like “no way”, I had never heard or taken part in it before!
But my best friend Méabh Mulcahy said come on, let's try it out, so finally I decided I would like to go, she got other people to take part as well!
Such as Niamh,Méabh H, Jessie and Alannah.
We decided we wanted to take part in the Irish dancing category!
A week later Micheal, our Irish dancing coach, came to our school and started explaining the dance and where everyone would go. Méabh H and I were placed in the middle and by our sides were Alannah, Jessie, Méabh M and Niamh.
At first the dance was easy but weeks later I started to struggle and didn't understand and I felt like I was the only one messing up but I tried my hardest and after a while I got the hang of it!
Finally our first competition came. We had our costumes on and were practicing mad! It was our time to go on stage. I remember I was so nervous but we went out there and did what we could.
Once we were done the judges rated us 78/100 obviously that wasn't our best but we did get through!
Next week came and we danced, danced and danced until we were so good all there was left to do is go to our next competition.
We scored 91/100 and were so happy we actually came first place and won a trophy!
We thought we did amazing like I said the next few weeks we just practiced and practiced. The next competition came and we got 89/100, not our best but was still good. The next day Ms Hyde came in with good news. We were offered a spot in Scór na nÓg which is an older division, we decided to take it and all though the competition was hard we danced our hearts off!
The next competition with Scór na nÓg we scored 90/100 now that was good! Considering we were up against older people. But then one of our dancers was not able to make it so we had to have a sub named Abigail and she tried her hardest and was a great sub.
Now you probably think we’re crazy for thinking lower than 90 isnt good but for us, we’re profectioness and want to do good so that's why we were not so happy when we scored a 87/100 in the county final for Scór na nÓg we thought we did great and so did are teacher Ms Hyde but apparently the judges thought otherwise.
We ended up coming 3rd which is really good since we were up against 17/18 year olds so I'm really proud so that's been my journey so far, We have a final for scór na bpáistí on April 1st, Hopefully we will win that! You never know but all I know is we will try our hardest and WIN!

My experience in Scór

It all started when Ms Hyde asked us if anyone would like to take part in Scór. I had never been a part of it before but since it is my last year at Whitegate N.S, I decided to take part.
When Ms Hyde was calling out ideas to do, one of them was an Irish dancing group. I thought it would be fun so I asked a few of my friends if they would like to take part.
Soleil, Meabh H, Niamh, Alannah, Jessica, Abigail and I applied to be a part of the Rince Foirne team. Micheal, our irish dancing teacher, came and taught us a dance called the Fairy Reel. We stayed in every break to practice.
Finally, our first competition came; it was the semi final of East Cork. It was held in Lisgoold. I was very nervous to go up on the stage but once I started dancing I felt great. The judges gave us a score of 78%. We got through to the East Cork final. We were all very happy.
Ms Hyde got us new black leotards. Micheal came to our school every Tuesday to teach us to dance and help us to perform in the different competitions.
The finals of East Cork was in Watergrasshill. We were against lots of other good teams but we still danced really well. This time the judges gave us a score of 91%.We came first place and got big trophies.
The next competition was the semi finals of County Cork. Since we got such a high score in the finals of East Cork, we were offered a place in Scór na nÓg which was the older division. We carried on practicing every break. Finally the semi finals of County Cork came and it was held in ovens. We didn't dance our best because at the start of the dance we were off time. Luckily we got through to the Cork County Final with a score of 89%.
Only a few days later we had another competition, it was the East Cork Final for the older division. It was held in Lisgoold. We came first in that competition and got trophies.
This time the judges gave us a score of 90%.We got straight through to the finals of Cork. The finals of Cork for the older division were on in Ovens. It was really hard since there were lots of older people. We were placed 3rd with a score of 87%. If I had to be honest I think we should have come 2nd. This Saturday in Ovens we have the county final of cork.Wish us luck. by Méabh M

Halloween 2022
Sciath na scol 2022
The Sciath Na Scol was a very exiting time for the team of 2022.
The team played against Ballintotas, Ringaskiddy, Gaelscoil Cobh and Walterstown.
The team played very well and they should have won some of the matches but the score lines sometimes didn’t go in our favour, we never put our heads down.
We all stuck together as a team and our chemistry was phenomenal. We had 6th, 5th and 4th on the team. Our coach was Ms. Hyde and
we Had many supporters. Every kid was at the school and they still supported us. Our team had many players. We had Davin In Goals (and also Soleil), In full back there was Christopher, Cormac, Robert and Riley but they were all constantly swapped between matches.
In half back there was Soleil and Méabh,(sister of Olan)who both played every minute of every match.
In midfield there was Harry and Alannah, in half forward there was Raphael and Kayla.
And in full forward there was Olan,(Brother of Méabh ) and Shay. And last but definitely not least. The subs. There was Eoin, Méabh H, Ronel, Niamh, Nate, Ciarán. The first match we played we got sweets and the second we got an applause from the rest of the school. We were so thankful of those people for giving us an applause.
It was such an enjoyable experience.
