Active School Week June 2022
3rd and 4th class were treated to a gymnastics session by Ms Murphy up on the pitch
3rd - 6th class took part in a soccer blitz throughout the day on Tuesday. It was great to see such a friendly atmosphere among teams! The final will take place during sports day!
Active School Week 2019
Friday 12/04/2019
Our final day of Active Week was another success.
All classes took part in a Whole School Fun Event. We completed a warm up and then played the Sinking Ship game. The children had great fun.
We had the final of our Soccer Tournament. Well done to both teams on a great game. Cork were the eventual winners on a scoreline of 1-0.
The children from 6th class took on the Staff in a game of Catch Ball. After a very sporting and competitive game, 6th class were the winners as the first team to reach 10 points.
The final part of the day was spent presenting certificates and trophies to the children for they achievements during Active School Week. Well done to the staff and children for such a successful and most importantly fun week.

Thursday 11/04/19
Active School week is in full swing in Whitegate NS.
The Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st class visited the playground today. This was as a reward for reaching 1000pts on their class Dojo. Well Done to Ms. Dunne's class.
Each class grouping took part in an Easter Egg Hunt today. The location of each egg was printed on a map, the children worked in pairs using their maps to collect the eggs. All of the eggs were divided equally among the classes. However the children who collected the most were as follows:
Ms. Dunne's class - Ruairí and Abigail
Ms. Terry's class - Riley and Peter
Ms. Hyde's class - Cillian and Ellie
The semi-finals of our Soccer Tournament took place today. The pairings were Cork vs Celtic and Inter vs Atletico. Well done to Atletico and Cork for progressing to tomorrows final.
We also continued with gardening today. After working hard all week to prepare the boxes, the children were able to set seeds today. They planted lettuce, spinach, carrots and potatoes.
We continued with Run Around Europe and our Active Homework.

Wednesday 10/04/2019
We were thrilled to welcome Midleton and Cork hurler Conor Lehane to our school today. Conor completed a hurling skills session with each class grouping. The children practiced their passing on the ground, roll lifts, jab lifts, hand passing and catching in the air.
Tug of War and Cic/Poc Fada was completed by 4th, 5th and 6th class. Well done to Cillian for winning the Poc Fada and Anna for winning the Cic Fada. Also well done to the winners of the Tug of War from each class
We also continued with our Soccer Tournament. Well done to Cork, Inter, Atletico and Bohemians for making tomorrows semi-finals.
We completed Run Around Europe and our Active Homework as well.

We continued with our Active School Week today. The children engaged in a variety of different activities.
Ms. Dunne's class took part in a How Far Can You Throw competition. The children each had an opportunity to throw a beanbag. Children from the Active School Committee then recorded the distance using trundle wheels. Well Done to Matthew who threw his beanbag 9m 30cm and won the competition.
Ms. Terry's class took part in a Tug of Water. Each group took part in two games. Well done to Aoibhinn, Donnahca, Méabh, Robert and Clara who were the overall winners.
Ms. Hyde's class continued with Round 2 of the Soccer Tournament. Well done to all the teams for giving their best. They also did some gardening to prepare our boxes for planting.
We were delighted to welcome the Irish Coast Guard to complete a session on Water Safety with each class.
Each class took part in Irish Dancing with Michael today.

Our Active School week got off to a flying start today. Children from each class took part in various different activities over the course of the day.
Ms. Dunne's class took part in Smart Moves in the morning and Circuit Training in the afternoon.
Ms. Terry's and Ms.Hyde's classes also took part in Circuit Training.
Our Soccer Tournament kicked off today. The children from 3rd to 6th class have been split into six teams. The qualifying rounds will continue until Wednesday, with a semi-final Thursday and Final on Friday.
Our Junior Infants, Senior Infants, 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes had Gaelic Football skills workshops with Séan from Cork Sports Partnership.
Each class continued with Run Around Europe today. This is our final week of our running initiative and the children are working hard to gt to their final destinations.
The Active School Committee were busy helping with the Circuit sessions when they're own class wasn't involved. Also a selection of children from 4th and 6th class were very helpful over the course of the day.
The Super Troopers activity books were given out today. The children will have active homework each night this week.

Active School Week 2018 |
MONDAY( Active schools Week 18th -22nd June 2018) On Monday the 4th, 5th and 6th were on their school tour. They went to Oysterhaven and participated in Water Sports and land based activities. Infants to 3rd had some super active fun!! Infants and first went to the playground!! 2nd & 3rd were in the hall being super active playing catch ball. We all played games at big break! 4th-6th class played in their World Cup Soccer Tournament
Infants to first class had obstacle races and cooperative games. Instructions were given as gaeilge and the children were encouraged to speak as gaeilge during the activity.
Wednesday
Today the Infants did Zumba Dancing, guided dance and 'GO Noodle Activities' as well as the Wednesday 'Super Trouper Movement Activity demonstrated by the Active School Committee ( 10 Jumping Jacks). The 2nd and 3rd class played their catch ball quarter and semifinals and 4th to 6th played their quarter and semi final World Cup Soccer Tournament. The running track was busy in the pitch at break times and the children were busy using hoops and ropes in the front yard.
Thursday
The children really enjoyed their Sports Day and more Active School's Activities. All classes rotated to the different stations and participated in welly throwing, water relays, obstacle races, egg and spoon races, bag races, three legged races and parachute games.

FridayFriday we held the final of the soccer and catch ball tournament for classes 2nd to 6th and Infants played mini games and giant connect four. Our GAA Coaches visited and gave certificates to Infants to 1st class. A very big thank you to the children and staff for all their work and participation for Active Schools Week. A very big thank you to our Active Schools Committee and the Subs for a very successful Active Schools Week. We finished the week with a well deserved ice-cream ice-cream.

Each night the children were assigned active homework. These activities were chosen from the Super Troupers programme.
